Xciting 500Ri vs Majesty 400
« on: November 01, 2010, 02:01:30 PM »
Helloes!

I was wondering if anyone had a chance to compare the redesigned XCiting 500Ri (ABS)
with the Majesty 400, maybe even the older Xciting 500i, but I'm interested ONLY in
the fuel injected model.

The way I see it, other then the Majesty being slower, it should do everything else
better.

Anyone care to share running costs on their Xciting 500i/Ri, MPG figures (again, fuel
injection only please
)? How about the 0-60mph time (stock if possible)?

Thanks!

You assume that the Yam' is better in every other way?  It does maintain a higher resale value.  I've owned ~25 motorcycles/scooters from primarily Japan but also from England and Italy.  The Kymco I own now is my first Taiwanese product and I find it to be to a high level of engineering and build quality.  The brakes are soft and the shock/dampers are not great, but it rides great at 80% where I spend most of my time beneath.  I've been pretty deep into the scoot' mechanically and I see mostly good copying and original design and production work.  I'm a pretty fastidious EE and open to suggestions otherwise. :)

Yeah, I know Kymco makes great bikes, I DO own one, and I've worked at a dealership
for 2 years, and have ridden a lot of them, and other big bikes/scooters too, but never
had a chance to ride the Majesty 400 or the new Xciting 500Ri, but I DID have a ride
on XCiting 250.. and while it was very nice it didn't "blow me away", and I'm not talking
about power.

Yeah, I figure the Majesty is a better bike in general re: handling, brakes, suspension,
MPG figures etc, I'm sure both are of very high quality and will last for years, that's why
I've narrowed it down to these two.

I've been reading up a bit on maintainance costs.. the Yamaha is a fair bit cheaper
to maintain then the Xciting here it seems..  :(

My little Agility 125's parts prices are rather high already for it's class/price range.

If you're considering used scoot's, the Kymco will be much less expensive.  I purchased my '06 People 250 for $1,800.00 in very good shape.  I looked at Yam's, Suzuki's and Silverwings and although there was no doubt of their quallity and support, they are quite a bit more expensive and I'm happy to say the Kymco's quality is pretty darn close.  YMMV!  The T-Max is also a pretty cool scoot'!

With the Majesty ABS @ US$10k here, and T-max over $14k and running costs a lot closer to my 650cc Kawasaki then my
125cc Kymco, even a used T-max would be out of my price range, and most (if not all here) will not have ABS, and I will NOT
buy it without it. The Majesty's big service intervals, cheap parts etc puts it at just about 10-15% more expensive to run
per mile then my Agility 125 (didn't take fuel into this equation, but it's MPG figures are great, and from what I've read
the Xciting's aren't..).

Similar problems with used XCiting's 500Ri ABS. I'm rather sure _none_ were imported into Croatia. ZERO.

Cortez,

You sure get around but you not finding your answer.  I read here and ADV and I don't think anyone knows the answer. I am not sure the Majesty was a big seller for Yamaha and it has been dropped from the US Yamaha line for 2011.  At least the Xciting is still being imported and it seems to have sold fairly well for Kymco.  I don't know how many were Maj or X sold in the US; but the US market is one of the smallest for scooters as a whole.

Good thing I'm not anywhere near the USA then ;)
Even a local dealer has one 08 (3000 miles) Majesty w/ JCosta on the floor, but I don't want
a non-ABS bike so..
