Spanner wrench for shock adjustment
« on: November 28, 2021, 06:55:38 AM »
Hey folks - all is going well with my wife's Like 200i. Another question for the hive mind: does anyone have a recommendation for a specific spanner wrench to adjust the rear shocks? The user manual just says to use a spanner wrench and does not specify the size. Thanks and hope everyone has a great holiday.

@bxc, good to read your LIKE is doing well....
For the shock tool: pls see pics
- there should be one "hookspanner" in your original KYMCO tool bag together with some other emergency tools

- if not, any car shop should have such a thing

- if they don't , order one for little money in internet but watch the right size, for there are different ones available (compare with pic and measure  in cm/mm)

Different angle of its neck doesn't matter.

It could be adjusted with waterpump pliers too, but bears the danger of scratches.

@Ruffus very kind of you to take photos with a ruler! A great public service. Our Kymco definitely did not include the emergency kit, so I'll have to order this wrench. Thanks so much.

bxc - the tool kit is kind of hidden..it's attached under the seat in a little black pouch that blends in with the seat. It is very easy to miss.

My new 2012 LIKE200iLX came with a little black plastic bag of tools, but the kit did not include a shock wrench.

I sprayed a few drops of WD40 in the area, wrapped a heavy towel around and gently grabbed and turned the adjustment with Channel lock pliers.
Don't chip the chrome.....more twist with a little squeeze  :) Depending on which way you are turning, I've even done it by hand with that towel.

Once set, the shocks rarely need further attention.....applying the Principles Of Sophoclesian Wrenching ; namely - "dontfoolwidit!!"

Just closing the loop on this - I double checked and there is no tool kit under my seat. I ended up buying this set of spanner wrenches just to see if the small one (38-42) would work, and it does.

Coilover Wrench, Hook Wrenches Tools Set Shock Spanner Wrench set C-Shape Spanner Coilover Adjustable Spanners Adjustment Tool For Most Coil Over (4PCS) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B099RQTRQL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GWVA35WA3JJZ3DTK0BHP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I prefer carrying the wrench in the bike in case my wife and I need to adjust it when we're riding two-up vs solo.
