Never understood under-seat security worries
« on: April 16, 2022, 03:00:17 PM »
All scooters have some sort of seat security.

With heat build-up under all scooter seats - you're not going to be carrying a $2K laptop - or the Pres's nuclear football - under there.
So what's the worry? I highly doubt the thief wants to dig at panels in order to locate the secret thing which will pop the seat - Heck, I'd just roll it into my van. And take my time , at home, with a coffee and a donut. Listening to oldies.

Can't recall the last time I heard, "my scoot's fine - but he broke into my seat and took my tire pressure pencil!"

My Liberty's seat is almost never latched - whether I'm riding on it, or it is parked.

So you're implying why have any security on a scooter since all of it that currently exists on any scooter can be defeated... eventually.

I see it as a system to keep less determined thieves from a quick take away.
And the only scooters that really build up much heat in the storage box are those with the engine on the swing arm. My wife's Metropolitan is like that. It gets warm, but not hot in there. All of my super scooters stay cool in the under seat storage and I HAVE carried computer server parts like circuit boards and hard disks for $100,000+ data center servers in the storage of my Burgman 650 with no ill effects. Oh, and I did carry my laptop there a few times and it was the same temp when I took it out as it was when I put it in.

Of course, in this country part of "security" is the fact that it is a scooter. My scooter and a Majesty and Harley Davidson were parked in the mc parking section at work (State Capitol complex) and the Harley was the bike someone attempted to steal. They found it a few blocks away with the ignition broken. The thief tried to hot wire the HD but failed so left it on the side of the street.

Nope.

All scoots have some sort of seat security to keep less determined thieves at bay, and when broken - can keep very determined owners out, too.
Full stop. :)

I keep my helmet and some tools in there when parked. If they can't see it, they don't care. Better that way.
