Is there a way to adjust the shocks for 2 up riding?
« on: August 13, 2011, 06:09:49 PM »
Me 190.  Da missus 130.  Just went around the block.  Shocks could be stiffer, almost felt like bottomed out on a couple bumps.

Can they be adjusted?

You should be able to adjust the spring preload - and I would do it all the way up.  I believe that on the Supre 8 150 it is at the bottom of the shocks.  There should be a ring that the springs set on, and it has notches (ramps) under it that sit on a pin.  You should have a spanner wrench in your tooklit that fits on there and allows you to turn that ring, and increase the preload.  Move it to the notch that is farthest from the spring - but don't go past it.  If you happen to have shocks that don't have that ring and notch setup (usually 5 notches) - then no, you can't adjust them...

If you are already on the farthest notch or if you have no notches - then you either need to buy better shocks - or take those apart and add spacers.  Taking a shock apart to add spacers is not as easy as it may sound.  You need to compress the spring and then remove the collar.  It's best to take the shock to someone who has a press...

If I decide to change my shocks for aesthetic purposes, what brand would you recommend that is the same or close to the original ones in terms of performance. I might buy something that's too soft or too stiff and end up going back to stock.

Harbor Freight tools has some spring compressors that are affordable... I think I paid about $20... they are for cars though so it might be a tight fit for a motorcycle... I might have to try it out and see...

Amazon search is my friend. $33.22 and free shipping. Although looking at the picture of it I'm not sure exactly how you would use it.

BTW Progressive makes some awesome shocks for motorcycles but it doesn't look like they have anything for scooters.  :(
