450i belt replacement
« on: July 23, 2022, 04:34:37 AM »
Need some help. I’ve search manuals and google as much as I can to find belt replacement method for my 450i. I can’t find anything. Dealer says I need to take off one of the clutches? I have the cover off but not enough slack to get the old one off. 2015 with 4k miles on it. Not desperate to get it off but can I cut the old one and slide the new one on? TIA.

Only on scooters have I played with belts and you MUST remove the clutch AND rhe variator (front pulley) to r&r the belt.

I havent had to replace the belt on my 450i yet but have on my 4 wheelers.  On those I was able to manually manipulate the clutch ( open the sheaves)  to allow enough play to work the belt over and get it off, same putting the new one on, but cant say for sure on the 450i.  Manual says to remove one clutch, but then so did my 4 wheeler manual....might help to have an extra pair of hands to open the clutch while you work the belt over the sheave edge.  If you have to remove a clutch, it shouldnt be that hard.  One of them will come off the shaft in one piece, not sure which one though...

You need the remove the front pulley assembly. The belt can be removed without taking off the driven pulley. Insert a belt case cover bolt into a hole in the outer sheave. The Kymco / Cyclepedia manual show the correct hole. Tighten the bolt to open the driven pulley. The belt needs to drop around 3/4 in. into the driven pulley. This will allow enough slack to remove the belt.
