AK 550 Noodoe System
« on: July 16, 2022, 12:43:44 PM »
The Kymco app allows you to load up any photo to the center screen on the dash and in the app under Creations there is a collection of custom photos people have loaded up.

Some have a clock over the photo, speedo or other info....not hard to upload a photo but there are no instructions I can find anywhere on how to place a digital clock over my chosen photo.

If anyone has figured this out and knows how to do it I would greatly appreciate it!!

Jeff

I haven't tried but I think I remember seeing an option to do that when you select and configure a clock. So it's not adding the clock to the photo but rather adding the photo to a clock. IOW, start with selecting a clock in Creations.

I'll check that out once again to make sure I am missing that process or step....

Let us know what you find out. I've never tried even uploading a photo since I don't really look at photos while riding. I like the plain simple clock or weather screens without fancy graphics or photos to look at. Easier to just be able to glance quickly at the info I want to see and then it's eyes back on the road.

Even after hearing no real positive opinion of Noodoe, other than from Noodoe marketing, I was disappointed. Tried the weather screen for about 5 minutes and then settled on either the clock or speed/odometer screen. I found that with two speedometers displayed, I had a better chance at being able to read one given how poorly they handle external light source. The light reflection is not new or unique to the AK550 dash.

When I ride in bright sun in the morning or evening I'll usually put up the speed on Noodoe since I can see one when the other is washed out or the other when the one is washed out. Agreed, not unique to the AK 550 dash. I've had the same issue with my first Burgman 650 as well as the LCD screen on my Honda CTX1300 and have heard comments from fellow riders of the same on their ST1300 and even a BMW or two. But most often I have the clock showing since I'm used to seeing a clock on several of my previous bikes.

I usually look up at the sky for weather other than perhaps to get an approximation of the temp within a 10-15 mile circle of me. Noodoe weather is taken from your phone Google or Apple weather apps and does not come from anything Noodoe provides other than the display of it. So if there is an issue with showing the weather blame your phone app.

I actually like Noodoe for the clock and really like it for Navigation. That part works well for me now that I figured it out. Had to figure out Garmin when I first got one of those too so nothing new with that idea. Most people who gripe about Noodoe expect it to be exactly the same as some other proprietary system they've been using on another bike, whether built in to that other bike or in some device (like a Garmin GPS) they added. Sure, it's proprietary to Kymco, but that's the nature of any proprietary system that most makers put out. Just a matter of learning it. Many simply give up quickly thinking everything should work the same no matter who makes it. I got over that real quick when I tried to use a TomTom GPS and it was so different than Garmin I learned my lesson.

Since the Noodoe weather doesn’t enhance the knowledge of the weather over what the rider can witness just by looking around, I found it useless. I don’t walk around looking at my phone’s weather app either. I use it when I want to get a snapshot of what is happing now and forecast then close it down. Several previous scooters displayed temperature on basic dash - one without phone connectivity.

Also, previous scooters had a clock on the regular dash. A Noodoe app was not needed so I can’t give this app kudos for displaying time on an display and temperature on a display.

That said, I switched between the clock and Speedo/odo display and they look nice and work well. But giving all the options for the left and right side displays, the Noodoe app shouldn’t be necessary to display time & temperature. The navigation feature is where the Noodoe screen makes sense. However, I found that just streaming directions from my phone to my ears was all I’ve needed as I dislike having to fixate my eyes focus on the display while riding. A quick glance is all I need to take to see speed or time, but would take me several additional seconds to read the map - not worth it to me. Hearing the directions is sufficient.

My feelings for Noodoe don’t effect my view of the scooter itself nor would keep me from buying another one with this system. YMMV

I think the point is missed, at least a little bit. The Noodoe app doesn't have any weather, it's just a display for your phone info. But I get it that Noodoe doesn't enhance what is already on your phone. I've never had a weather display on any bike I've owned anyway so no loss there. My GW did have a clock but no temp display. My ST1100 was the same. The only time I really need to see the temp is while riding in very cold temps but no motorcycle temp sensor that I've had or known about shows any temp below +14 F, which is where I am riding during cold season, so I'm used to bringing my own temp sensor that can show down to -54 F even though I don't ride when it's quite that cold. I normally only show the clock unless I am using the navigation. And even then I'll sometimes just show the clock since the nav talks to me.

As to Navigation. Noodoe is a very simplified display for that. UNLIKE Garmin or even Google Maps the road ahead is not displayed. I find it so much quicker to see what I want on Noodoe navigation than any other dedicated GPS or even Google Maps for that reason (I used to use Google Maps navigation on my Burgman). I do see how far to the next waypoint or turn or other feature relative to navigating (a nano second to see), and if within a mile of a turn Noodoe tells me over my headset but doesn't show it yet, and about 1/2 miles away it does tell and show it. Otherwise, there's not much graphics to look at so no distraction there. One of the things I like about it.

I got it figured out and loaded a few very sexy photos and put a digital clock over or with it. You can look through other people’s creations or use your own. I could care less about having a weather app or screen and don’t plan on any long trips this summer so GPS is not needed. I like have a clock which eliminates me wanting or needing to have some sort of phone holder. I like the Noodoe system alot knowing most bikes don’t have or show any info at all. Scooters maybe but not bikes.
