Silverado vs. scooters - $/per mile
« on: September 30, 2022, 02:36:53 PM »

It will cost me about $19 to drive my 16 yr old Silverado "Work Truck" 6cyl. 100 miles on reg. gas today.

I use SHELL nitro 93 in all my scooters. ($4.27 today)
My Piaggio Liberty150i3V-ABS will go 100 miles on a little under $5.00
My LIKE200iLX ....a little under $7.00

I don't feel like doing the math on my old Suzuki Burgman 400 at @60mpg.
or the Honda Forza NSS300 at @72mpg.

Two things to consider - I usually ride my scooters over @40 MPH about as often as Ohio votes democrat. Most dark mornings in the sticks I ride somewhere in the mid-to-high 20's MPH range.
So - it will be strange if your MPG's match mine :)

Regards & ride safe,

I'm sure once you add up all the costs, the scooters will still be cheaper, but the is a lot more to cost per mile than gasoline

I'm retired now, so I don't keep track like when I did for business miles,  cheaper/mile than any motorcycle I have ever owned, was an '82 BMW 320i. why, I didn't have to spend $350 every 5000 miles for tires, + chains & sprockets, more frequent maintenance schedule, I could go on, one year my SV650, I spent $2500 just in tires, my little bimmer took cheap 13" tires that lasted 80,000 miles

My V-strom 1000, you don't even want to know, and yes, my Silverado is cheaper.

Filled up the Downtown 300i today. 212 miles and 2.9 US gallons. Gas up again. $5.15 gal of regular 87 octane. I guess the increase is for hurricane relief.

I once added up the cost per mile of my bikes.  As you posted there is a lot more than just gas.  Surprisingly the depreciation  cost was about as high as gas.  Then there is the cost of tires, belts, etc.

I have a Chevy Avalanche which is similar in size and cost to a Silverado.  Mine is over 20 years old and I'll likely keep it at least 10 more and then sell it to someone who will drive it for even more years.  Depreciation costs are probably less than my scooters.  Of course the cost of gas is much higher but there are some things I just cant haul with my scooters.

2.44 in Mt Pleasant Iowa today for my truck. Closer to 3.00 for the higher octane I put in the bikes.
