nice ride around the lake today
« on: October 28, 2022, 10:15:56 PM »
it was sunny and in the low 50's so I decided not to waste the opportunity to get in a ride today, late this morning. 28 miles and hit a GPS indicated top speed of 61.4 with the throttle pinned on a downhill. Beautiful Fall day. Even took a pic of the scoot out at the reservoir! Enjoy your Fall rides!

is this a regular " around the lake" ride ?  I have a regular "around the pond" ride, I prefer to do off season meaning not between Memorial Day and Labor Day

I have a nearby lake and reservoir that I regularly ride around. Nice roads and little traffic.

during the summer, our lakes gets somewhat crowded, Wolfeboro, one of the towns on my loop has the distinction of being the oldest summer resort in America, or as least claims to be, and of course, on the other side of the lake, I go thru Laconia, home of the oldest motorcycle rally in America

In the winter, I occasionally do the ride, not sure why (the need to just go for one) can't take advantage of the Free Horsepower you get from Cold Air cause of the lumpy frost heaved roads, I put on my heated gear and bundle up like the Michelin Man and have done the ride as cold as minus 15 degrees (Fahrenheit for out Metric friends)

can't even imagine what the wind chill must be at an air temp of -15 F!

can't even imagine what the wind chill must be at an air temp of -15 F!

I use duct tape around my wrist and waist, jacket has good overlap over my Windstopper balaclava, so no tape around my neck, same with pants & boots, In the beginning, I didn't use duct tape, but quickly found out -100 wind chill feels like a needle in a tiny leak.  another thing I discovered, when gassing up remember to put gloves on if you took em off to run your credit card.  I was lucky I was getting gas when I was returning from a ride and only had 3 miles with heated gloves would not warm back up

I try to limit speeds to 60 or less, even with a good balaclava, any faster and your helmet will feel like your head is in an ice cube

Oh ya! did I tell you that COLD AIR = FREE HORSEPOWER, snowmobiles run better the colder it is, same holds tru for bikes
