"Two things..." driving safety & mileage report
« on: December 15, 2022, 04:30:37 PM »
(My daughter (BTW - her B.D. today) always starts her comments like this. But the preamble may run into pages.....and each 'thing' is guaranteed to go sideways)

Driving my family downtown the other evening to catch the Xmas music & lights in fountain square - before they silence the music in consideration of the guests in the Marriot at 9PM.
Full dark - car stopped in side street from my right doesn't see me (?) pulls out and turns L across my front!
Being a scooter rider for 10 yrs , 50% of it in the dark - I was ready for this idiot and did not hit them.
My wife and daughter complimented me on my "good job of driving!!"
I explained how a decade of scooter riding in this city prepped me for that car.

We are safer drivers because we ride, aren't we?

And.
Old fellow got out of his car to go into the market behind me and stopped to look at the Kymco.
"Is that plastic?"
"Yep."
"How fast does it go?"
"I quit trying to find out."
"Well, how long have you had it?"
"Heading into my 10th winter with it."
Looking at the dash -- "It has over 19,000 miles!"
"Yep."
"Be careful out there."
"Yep."

I wouldn't make much of a salesman.

Earlier....

1000% agree that riding on 2 wheels makes us all better car drivers! Better 'big picture' vision, looking farther down the road, acutely aware of all potential dangers, better spacing with escape routes, the list goes on and on.

Second that from both of you.  I'd go further.  Six months on a bike or scooter ought to be compulsory for everyone* before they are allowed a car license!

* exemptions for the disabled - differently abled?
