X-Town 300i Torque Values for Variator & Clutch nuts
« on: January 12, 2023, 03:18:31 PM »
I see from an earlier thread that this was debated for the Downtown 300* ( see https://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=24632.0 ), but would I be safe torquing to these values or does anyone out there think it could differ?

A search via Google was inconclusive!

*  I see the trusty De Dee gave the definitive answer for the Downtown at 68 & 54 ft lbs respectively! (86.8Nm & 73.2Nm for us metric types.)

https://kymco.at/kymco_store_view/dowloads/kymco.html  Look down through the list and the X-Town 300i manual should be there.  It's the last one listed.

So then Art, would you say that "Clutch Outer Nut 5.0-6.0 kgf-m is the clutch nut and "Drive face nut 9.0-10.0 kgf-m is the Variator nut?  I'm translating these torque values to 50 Nm & 95 Nm? As you'll see, these are a fair bit different to the DT300 values quoted in my OP

Yes that is what I would call those nuts, and the values listed are the same as the "Cyclepedia Service Manual".  I guessed they would be.

Are we using a torque wrench?
What kind, brand?
 I quit trusting mine.
Bought  a quality beam type wrench.

Kind of feel the same about the torque wrench that does the "click" when the value is reached. I use a beam model, have one that goes to 50 ft lb, and another that goes to 120 ft lbs.  If I were to invest in the more modern type I would pay the price for a good one.
To be honest I don't use the torque wrench a lot. For small fasteners I use 1/8 in drive and just like to feel how tight I'm getting.  I probably would use a torque wrench on the variator and clutch nut.

Yep. Never a torque wrench on small fasteners on my scooter. Never drain or fill plugs, or spark plugs, valve cover bolts, etc.
Whole saga here by experienced scooter mechanic wwhen his torque wrench let him down after rear tire change...stripped exhaust   studs when reinstalling muffler.

The one you show is a "click" variety torque wrench.

Art

Taken a look now thanks Art and, maybe if I did more mechanicing I could justify the additional cost.  As it is, I'll stick with my 30-quid click wrench!
