Comparing the Downtown 300i to a new 2022 X-Town 300i

Local dealer has a couple X-Town 300i for sale and would be interested to opinions on how these two Kymco models compare. My Downtown is a 2016 non ABS.

The X-Town has a smaller engine (not true 300cc, only 276cc), 25% less power and no oil filter, meaning more frequent oil changes. Otherwise they do share a lot of components.

The seat height on the X-Town is listed higher, and the floorboards are different, with possibly more position changes. and some other changes, which could be improvements. And agree the bigger engine on the Downtown is a great motor. The reviews of the X-Town 300 are good in spite of the decrease in HP.

Not as punchy as the DT, but should be fine.  The Vespa 300's get by just fine on a little less power; albeit they appear to have a 50lb advantage.

Why ya thinking of trading in your DT though?  Will your local dealer (Seattle Cycle?) let ya give it a test ride?

It's winter, spending more time on the computer. I don't plan on making the trip over to Seattle Cycle to check out their sale.  I see several members here have the X-Town 300 and am curious to see if they comment on the X-Town.  Even with the Downtown I'm happier riding 55 to 60 mph, and it really gets good mpg, 75 and better.  For sure I do not want any model heavier than the Downtown.

I've got the X-Town 300 Art and I love it, but then I've never ridden a DT300!  The XT power suits me fine as now it's run in it'll cruise comfortably in the 60-70 mph range with a top speed of around 80 mph indicated.  More importantly for me, it'll haul my lard arse uphill without running out of puff.

I occasionally run it two up and it can cope with that too.  Drop a top box on it and you've got yourself one very capable load lugger which can still cut it in the twisties.  Worth px-ing a DT300 for?  Only you can answer that!

Thanks Neil.  I think a lot of people pass on the X-Town because of the 276 cc motor. Truth is most of us would not miss the extra HP.  The rest of the comparing the Downtown to the X-Town looks like some changes in the plastic, but not a lot, and I would bet it still has the accessible engine with the storage tray removed.

You're probably right regarding accessibility Art, but can't yet confirm that from personal experience.  Also many (>80%?) mechanical parts are shared with the DT300...

Most people don't pay attention to that. They pass on it for the same reason Kymco stopped importing a lot of scooters. Nobody buys them. The X-Town has the old Reflex, Xciting engine, and the Downtown has a newer High Output engine Kymco designed in-house after they parted ways with Honda.
