Start sequence
« on: February 09, 2023, 12:12:09 PM »
I have just begun (the Carpenter's song is now stuck in my head!) to fiddle with an idea involving a super capacitor and the ECU to improve starting. The test bed will be the UXV500i but it will apply to nearly every model with marginal starting systems (which does not include the Like 200i models).

The biggest challenge is the switchology that seems necessary to isolate  the cap and ECU temporarily while actual cranking, then to isolate the cap at shut-down.

Will advise..

LOL😆😆, Stig and Neil txs alot for this flowers.
Indeed I do have some knowledge and experience in this field since I needed for my MOTO GUZZIs bowels something less voluminous than Bb batteries.

But all my experiments with super caps until were in vain, because I couldn't produce a working BMS (battery management system) which would be:
small enough, reliable enough, safe enough and cheaper than batteries on the market.

So I came back to LiFePo4 batteries and simply changed the motorcycles guts, put different sidepanels on it and that was it.

There is for sure a way to do it, put right now I don't have time follow this path, for my heart is more in restoration than developement.

Ruffus, if that red seat Guzzi is the after pic of the before below it, you did a GREAT restoration job!  Follow your heart buddy!

There were some other projects too, i.g.
A beautiful Moto Guzzi California 1100 ie painted in "champagne" and a
nice BMW 1150 RS which I used to move around on race tracks, approximately all the same technical outfit. Two cylinders, cardan, electronic injection.

Yes, Ruffus, that is some really nice work! That Guzzi or whatever in the boneyard: what a daunting starting point! Hats off to you!

Thanks all!
The next patient is already in line. Let's see what the owner decides to make of it, a Café Racer or leave it a classical V35C with contemporary looks.

nice looking bike! I love the classic bike rebuilds..be sure to keep us updated on the progress! I had to look up that model as I'm not too familiar with the Moto Guzzi lineup...350cc, 90 degree v twin, shaft drive, early / mid 80's? Go Ruffus!

hawk yes,
this is those so called "piccolo serie" (small models) which consisted V35, V50, V65. All of them same frame, from ca.1980 on ignition under front shield together with BOSCH or SAPRISA alternator. Made them more reliable then before.
Besides that, pretty much the same setup like compareable BMWs, relais, diode carrier, BREMBO integrale brake systems, etc.
