NSR: what gives w/the Kias and Hyundais?!
« on: February 15, 2023, 04:10:11 PM »
Keep hearing how easy they are to steal!
On the radio this morning, "20 cars were stollen over the w/e in Dayton. 15 were Kias and Hyundais!"

Heard some noise that some insurance companies are refusing to cover them.

Would love to hear how the salesmen are dancing around that one! ("Well, sir, it's just a really really popular car!")

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

An early model of Ford's Escort over in the UK was the #1 thieved car for several years on the trot, until Ford upped their game!  Not heard that Kias or Hyundais were particularly susceptible to theft, but maybe they are. Quick Google reveals:

The UK's top five stolen cars: 2021 vs 2022

    Ford Fiesta. 3909. 5724. +1815.
    Land Rover Range Rover. 3754. 5209. +1455.
    Ford Focus. 1912. 2048. +136.
    Volkwagen Golf. 1755. 1959. +204.
    Land Rover Discovery.

So, Ford is still a bad choice!

So I guess it was a Tik-Tok challange that exposed vulnerabilities in Kia and Hyundai and led to the uptick in thefts.
Now here is the response:

Maybe one of the best benefits of computer controlled ignition. Like what is found with keyless ignition systems.
