I think there are better ways to put studs in your tires for riding on icy roads!

not so much now that I have retired, in fact, none, but nails, screws, staples were a regular thing for me, using my bike as a company vehicle, going to jobsites, punctures were a regular thing, usually in the first 500 miles, so I can safely say I have ridden well over 100k miles on plugged tires, (rope plugs from the outside)

I even stuffed 4 plugs into a tear in the sidewall of my yard truck, held air for 5 years till I junked the truck, in the meantime, it only got rough terrain offroad use, I never trimmed the plugs, they stuck out of the tire's sidewall like whiskers

I saw the screw head in the rear tire of my Like after I washed it.  I normally carry everything I need to plug a tire and inflate it.  What I normally don't carry in my tool kit are torx bits.  Since I was at home I had the right size bit and just unscrewed it from my tire.

Then I plugged it.

.

And inflated it.

My experience is that these cheap sticky string plugs will last the life of the tire without leaking.  All of the other types of plugs I have tried ended up leaking.

my experience as well, if a plugged tire starts to leak, it has always been another puncture

Klav those type of plugs are excellent in my opinion. Used loads, never had an issue. Don’t leave home without them!

Doing this for years, in scooter and car tires, so I made a few pics on a torn tire to demonstrate how it looks inside.

Strips are common package cord just to illustrate.
Never had a problem on any vehicle with air loss.
( pls see pics)

is the preference for the tire plugs with rubber cement or without? I have some in an old kit without the rubber cement but I see many kits offered with it?

I used some rubber cement but most kits come without it.  I think the plugs will work without it but I have always used rubber cement.  Since my plugs have always held up why take a chance?

As klaviator says, use this rubber cement with this plug-strips. Makes it easier to push in and the tool out.
This strips have kind of cement on them, but by time it dries out.

@klaviator, what is your opinion of the Hyoer Tough tire inflator? That looks far easier to use than what I currently have.

Thanks

It works great.  Just screw the hose onto the valve stem, set the pressure you want and turn it on.  You can also use it to charge your phone or other electronic devices.  I bought it from Wally World for around 30 bucks.
