Anyone using FOBO TPMS tire monitors? UPDATE~!
« on: March 12, 2023, 02:34:10 AM »
Checking my tire pressures on my 2 scooters is one of my least favorite things to do!
Every time I check them I lose a bit of air, so out comes the power cord and down we go wrestling some air back into the tire.

Thought maybe I'd treat myself to a set of these. See how well they work.
Anyone have experience with these?

Well, I found a statement from the manufacturer that they do not recommend using these on a rubber valve stem.
So I am going to give them a pass - I don't need a leak-down miles from home, in the dark and rain!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Never have myself. I know many riders on the ST-Owners forum and Burgman forum who have used those. They like them. But one big word of advice I keep hearing from all...
DON'T put them on rubber valve stems. Swap out the rubber valve stems with metal stems to prevent spinning forces from breaking the rubber (which WILL happen).
Many riders I know of who have these put in a metal T valve stem. The ones with 2 valves, one straight out from the base of the stem and another on the side. The cap on the top valve is replaced with the TPMS cap and the side valve is used if you need to add air. But that's only if there is room for those kinds of stems.

Like the T-Valve from FOBO here in their accessories page.

or this.

BTW- after having factory TPMS on my AK 550 if I ever have another bike without it I'll be looking to add it.

I have had for a number of years a system similar to FOBO on my DT300i (on rubber stems) that is great once it turns on. That is, once the transmitters on the valve stems turn on.

The branched valve stems mentioned by rjs are the way to do it so you don't have to fiddle when you need air. I got 'em....just gotta put 'em on when tires change!
