That "tone ring" circle thingy with the rectangular slots all the way around and the electric/electronic sensor that hovers over the slots.

Black wire goes on the end with just one connection. Green w/stripe on end with two connections (spark plug wire/fat, black & skinny green). According to the wiring diagram. A smart a_ _ answer would be "back on where you pulled it off!"

I even draw pictures when I remove the spark plug to make sure it goes back inna right place!

In the Downtown 300i manual, there is a nice wiring diagram. German language "schaltplan Downtown 300i" if you open this should help with thw correct color codes connections.     https://kymco.at/kymco_store_view/dowloads/kymco.html

Don't have a picture but do you have a multimeter with an ohms scale or two?

Got a photo,  but color didn't come out good.  Looking at the coil, it does have both connectors on the end .  The bottom one is green, and the one on the top is black, when looking at the photo.

have a multimetre yes
Plug wire to green = high ohms
Plug wire to black =  high ohms
Black to green        = low ohms

And the manual does have section to check the coil using a voltmeter.  I sure do like how the Kymco Downtown 300 is reasonable to access and work on. Plus it's just a great running scooter. Makes me think the AK550 must be a very good Maxi.  Way more than I need.

Great! We can add that to the list of items NOT IN the service manual that keeps these from starting!
