We've been on the Atlantic coast of Delaware for a week - vacationing...(like I needed a break!)
At least in this coastal area the roads are pretty interesting. In heavily trafficked built-up areas there exists a right lane dedicated to busses, bicycles, motorbikes... and right turners. So while 2 or 3 or 4 lanes of traffic is stopped or crawling along - a fellow on a scooter can zip with care in this R lane and breeze through the jams!
Of course it wasn't long before I saw the typical "scooter passing along the curb and car suddenly turns right" near collision! This was a rental scoot - so unskilled rider without the proper imagination which veteran scooter riders develop - hopefully!?
I move towards all scooters as a rule- so chatted with a Buddy and a Vino rider yesterday.
"Scooters are the only way to get around with all this darned traffic!" said the Vino 50 rider - after telling me twice that his scooter is NOT a Chinese scooter!~ His Yamaha is 12 yrs old, 9000+ miles. Runs like a top - gets a "new plug every now and then".....tires looked original
He was wearing an open face helmet (shorts, no gloves)....as he puttered away through the 25mph streets....
Water temp is 67.8°F in the Atlantic today.
83°F in our usual Fla beach along the Gulf of Mex.
55°F in the English Channel.....
Vino guy was telling me that the big local scooter seller closes every winter - then opens the same shop in Florida!
