NSR: what car?
« on: June 21, 2024, 10:15:01 PM »
Saw this today in Carolina Beach, NC.
Is it a legal road car?...I ask because I see a lot of golf carts on these streets.
Any info...is this a vintage vehicle?

every state has different laws, for example, here in NH, I have what is called "Special Commercial" (SPEC COMM) registration for my Kymco UXV450i, that allows me to drive on the street with it

vehicle vintage, probably brand new, it's a "Moke", low speed urban electric vehicle

yellow car pictured appears to be new, electric version...I attached a pic of the original

The Mini Moke is a small, front-wheel-drive utility and recreational convertible, conceived and manufactured as a lightweight military vehicle by British Motor Corporation (BMC), and subsequently marketed for civilian use under the Austin, Morris, Leyland, and Moke brands. The name "Mini Moke" combines mini with moke, an archaic term for a mule.[7][8][9][10] The Moke is known for its simple, straightforward, doorless design; and for its adaptability.

BMC's Cowley plant started building Mokes in January 1964, with 14,518 produced in the UK between 1964 and 1968; 26,000 were manufactured in Australia between 1966 and 1981; and 10,000 in Portugal between 1980 and 1993 when, after a nearly 30-year run, production ended.[11][12][13][14]

In 2013, in a joint venture with Jaguar Land Rover, Chinese automaker Chery Automobile started production in China of a new car called Moke.[15][16] This evocation of the design is assembled and distributed by a number of companies in several countries including England, France, and the US, although ownership of the Moke trademark is disputed.[17]

Beat me to the draw Hawk!

Used to see a lot of these here in the late '60s early '70s and yes, road legal here Stig.  Rarer than rocking horse droppings now; subject to corrosion?...

Used to see them, and the VW Thing, used as island taxis at tropical island vacation destinations. Hotel owners providing transportation airport to resort.
This car got a lot of looks by passersby.

In my 20's I always wanted one!
There is a pristine orange one that shows up in my coffee village every so often.
Someone said the owner also is the owner of the new  Bugatti I see once a year getting coffee at Dino's.
( sort of related...One time our car was in the photo of Yellow Springs in a British newspaper....I installed very distinctive LED DRL's in my wife's xB...so knew it was a day my daughter had taken us for coffee)
