I'll start by saying I'm relatively green on the mechanical side of things. Outside of growing up with a master mechanic as a father who ran his own oil business, I don't have much experience with engines and the like. I can change my own oil, change a tire, replace a fuel pump, and derestricted my Agility 50.
I haven't started or run the scooter for over a year
but left a nearly empty tank in it last summer. It's been sitting in my climate-controlled garage otherwise. I replenished the fuel and tried to give it a go. The battery seemed to be operating, as my gauges and blinkers worked. As I tried the electric start button, it would try to start up, but never fully start. I charged the battery up for a bit and tried again, thinking maybe it was low. It eventually turned over, and I attempted to give it a little gas to get it running, but it would not stay running. After charging the battery for 7 hours, I tried again with no luck. I took the battery in to be tested at BatteriesPlus, who indicated the battery is at about 70%. So again, I returned and tried to start it up, this time it started up right away and as I gave it some gas, it seemed it was going to stay running. But alas, it died within 5-10 seconds. A few notes:
- I've checked the two fuses near the battery, and those seem to be fine
- I've also attempted to start it up with a jumper pack attached, which doesn't seem to help or change much
- I've pushed it while starting it and gave it some gas, which seems to help it want to turn over, but doesn't make it stay running
- When I attempt to start it with the kick start, it does the same thing. It did start up once, but immediately died.
Wondering if maybe the carburetor needs to be cleaned? Or it has some old fuel in the line that needs to be cleaned out? Or I'm completely off and this bad boy needs to head to the shop. Any information or guidance is extremely appreciated!
