Hi all,

In the off chance that this forum is still alive...  Basically someone tried to steal my scooter, and broke the "steering lock" functionality (so the handlebars now turn freely with the key removed from ignition).  I also noticed that the handlebars now do not align with the front wheel.  What's the best way to figure out how to re-align the handlebars (or figure out what the thieves actually broke)?  Thank you!

bb

Yes there's still a hardy few still standing on here!

I'm sure one will be along soon to offer some pearls of wisdom - and welcome back to the Forum.

Saw this a few times on the Vespa forum.
If the alignment is not too far off - the owner is advised to stand astride the front wheel - locking the wheel with your legs and see if the bars will move to align.... without using excessive force.

No idea if this will work with a Kymco....so use care.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Thank you for your responses Neil and Stig.  I have not been able to find out too much in response to my question, so have simply sent the scooter to my insurance provider, and hopefully they'll be able to get it fixed.  Fingers crossed that they will be able to fix it....

Curious, because maybe I misread. The handlebar moves freely with the key out unless the handlebar is in the locked position. Do you mean it doesn’t lock anymore and when the key is turned from off to lock it does not lock?

I can take a look at mine I have the cover off, is your frame bent?

SOP is to replace the steering lock.  It takes a bit of work, but can be done since it's a common problem in some areas.
