my seat latches
« on: February 07, 2025, 01:42:55 PM »
I never fully close the seat on my Liberty.
The few times I did - it has an electrical opening switch on the handlebars - and a hidden manual/cable release, accessed with the key, should the battery be dead.
My LIKE200i has a very short distance from the side keyed-lock to the rear latch. Easy to access from under the seat edge.
(do have a couple emergency Moon Pies under there - so there's that.
Easy for thieves?
Except when locked in the garage - 99% of the time my scooters are in my view. It's just the way I use my scooters.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Pretty sure my seat latch is electrical although I may be wrong as you turn the ignition switch against discernible resistance?  Must investigate!

EDIT:  Investigated, and it's mechanical see: KYMCO DT-X360 SEAT LOCK CABLE ASSY 77240-AGE2-E00  a snip at £100+ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144715123919  eek!

@Neil, wouldn't rely on electric release, particularely whe driven on salty roads.
There is CROSSBOLTS tread from 2016 which offers a solution, txs Karl

Fair comment Ruffus.  When things warm up a tad (no heating in my garage!), I'll have a mooch under the seat.  Having confirmed from the comfort of my desk that it's a cable operated mechanical system (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144715123919), I'll need to see where to attach the emergency release line as per Karl's advice.

The link above does not work Ruffus.  Do you still have access to the 2016 post of Crossbolt's, save me searching?

Here is CROSSBOLTs treatment for...👍🛠

You do know, I hope, there is a way in that requires no tools? Turn forks to left, lay on ground (if an old guy) on machine right, look up to back of ignition switch, grab cable housing on bottom of ign. switch and pull along cable axis as best you can. Repeat yanking on cable housing until seat unlatches. Take two aspirin and call me in the morning!

Karl

@Neil, I took both latches off the bench because I, like Stig never leave my scoot unobserved somewhere. Another way, take one (RH -side only) off and make an emergency release cable to your LH lock.

That's great thanks Ruffus.  I'd say my scooter is only ever out of my sight about 5% of the time, but...  Maybe even that's too often to risk disabling the lock.  Come the Spring I'll look into a rudimentary emergency release along the lines of your Italian Rope Trick!
