owner's manuals and service manuals

With the Kymco LIKE200iLX I received a thin owner's manual with necessary and basic information, including:
the service schedule!
oil types and photos for "how-to" gear and engine oil changes
Specs for bulbs, fuses, tire sizes, fuel, weight limits, idle and max revs.
I found only one error in the manual - it does not have a side-stand lock-out as stated. That took me a bit to figure out.
An 8x11 card spelled out the fully transferable 2 year warranty.
I also received a $50 gift card from Kymco with a thank you card a few weeks after purchase.

Straight away I purchased a life-time on-line subscription to cyclepedia for DIYing service of my LIKE.

My Piaggio Liberty S ABS with the 150 3V i-get engine came with a warranty booklet and a hefty owner's manual* in english/french/spanish.
The manual has the expected parts & lubricant specs and the service schedule. It also has pages for DIY servicing of some basics. Namely how to change the oils, replace bulbs, fuses, battery, how to remove panels to access the headlight, brake fluid reservoir and airfilter and the spark plug!

Before purchasing the Liberty I purchased the fairly comprehensive official Piaggio service manual download for $7.99 from AF1-Racing in TX. (a major source for parts)
I wanted to ensure that I did not buy a scooter with ridiculous service procedures (see valve adj. on a Honda PCX) I read through the manual, felt comfortable relying on my limited DIY skills and then purchased the scooter. So far, so good - after 8 years :) Hasn't seen a dealer in those 8 years.
I still think of it as a new scooter.

from the owner's manual....not the service download.

I've had good luck with both scooters. Actaully - had no complaints about the Burgman 400 and Honda Forza - for that matter. I've had good luck buying from new. ;)

* once I used the 800 number in the Liberty owner's manual to ask a service question (valve specs) - was speaking to Piaggio HQ in Manhattan, NYC ! - and received a reply from a company engineer with helpful info: "use the valve specs on the sticker in the pet carrier - those are the most up-to-date for that engine"!

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

An Error Has Occurred!
