Previous owner left it outside and rats moved in. Got it for a steal. I'm wondering what wires are run near the carb/ top of the engine? The ignition system looks fine, but I know the auto choke wires are bit. I still need to look into what other wires are damaged. Can anyone send me a pic, or a list of what wires are in that area? Thanks.

This part is called "wire harness". You can look it up in exploding diagrams at Yamaha Stadium, or order entire electrical installation from scooterpartsmania for GY6 125 scooter. It's just a few dozen bucks, free shipping.

The damage isn't that bad that I need to replace the entire wiring harness. So far it seems the electric choke, starter relay and possibly tail lights all have wires chewed up. Ignition and everything else are fine. Here's a question though, what side of the moped are the wires run for the tail lights? Are they part of the wiring harness run on the right side of the frame, or are they run elsewhere? I'm trying to play detective 3,000 miles away from the scooter with pictures I took before I left. Work first, scooters second  :-[

http://www.wotmeworry.org.uk/manuals/Kymco/

free service manual download with lots of pictures. good luck. I have heard if you stuff your engine compartment with some nasty fiberglass insulation for the winter it will keep rats and mice from nesting. not sure if it works but...maybe leave some of that nice blue rat killer that dries them up alongside the insulation. I love animals but rats and mice are very destructive. try to deter them. :P

Thanks for the link. I've been looking at wiring diagrams trying to see what colored wires connect where. I've traced out the diagram and then compared it to the pictures I took before I left. Only wires I'm not quite sure of are a set of blue and yellow, and green and orange wires. The diagram says those colors are used for the tail lights. Hence my post. The rats chewed up the wires and dragged them all over the place so its been hard to accurately follow each one.

I'm still away from the scooter so I can't work on it just yet. I'll keep everyone posted on the outcome. I definitely won't leave a scooter outside. I garage all mine, but the guy I bought this one from didn't.

Heads up for anybody the wotmeworry link you need to have some program that can unzip .rar files. I used winzip.

yeah I was wondering why the adobe reader had to download a new version but it worked flawlessly after I did the download.  still a nice resource if anyone is wondering. free is good. the rats (mice especially) around here are more than happy to live in the garage if possible. so garaging may be even more inviting to the little weasels. I will report back on the insulation thing if it seems to be working. if you can seal the garage off I suppose a garage is safe. I need some outdoor cats. Only problem is if you keep a cat in the garage the opossums and raccoons want in as well. and I live in the city! but we live close to the river so I guess that is part of it. good luck. :P
