« on: February 18, 2011, 07:48:39 PM »
Hi everyone I have a problem with my SX SUPER FEVER 50 It starts and runs but dies the first time you have to stop at a junction and will not start again, after 5 minutes standing it will start and tickovr but not rev give it another 5 minutes it will start and run really well after a mile or so it will go through the same process again and so on and on. It has been into the local dealers for months and has had a new cdi unit/new coil/new plug/a rebore and new piston a new choke unit (auto by starter) in the end the dealer returned it to me with a huge bill and an apology : I am sorry we have done what we can but the problem is still there we can,t find out what it is, so you will have to put up with it: Please has someone any idea how to get this problem sorted.

Wow Ian you have a lot more patients than me ! I'd have gone postal on someone . Having said that it dosn't sound as if you were treated very fairly or professionally . If you have kept the paper work for the repairs you could at least complain to the Kymco regional factory represenative . They might be able to help . Good luck .

Where are you located Ian?  In many US states they have what's referred to as a "Lemon Law" that outlines when a vehicle must be replaced by the seller/manufacturer.

Hi tech guy
I live in the U/K so things are a bit different over here. I am going along the way of thinking that the problem is probably down to the carburretor flooding when I shut the throttle, which would explain the good running untill i slow down for a junction after the engine is warm, I am going to check the float needle for wear next.My own thing is Triumph motorcycles not the modern ones but 60s models I have no idea about 2 strokes, and the last carburretor aia had in peices was an Amal monobloc. I would expect the theory is the same.

Plugged up gas cap vent has been discussed here before and it sounds very familiar to your symptoms.  JPrestonian always suggests try riding a while with the gas cap off and see if that cures it.  Or just go ahead and clean it with a very thin wire and some solvent.  Either way.

Thanks for the tip but I have tried running without the gas tank cap, on it made no difference But I do agree with you and I know it can happen like this it can cause a vacuum in the tank and stop the fuel running down to the carb. I will keep on trying.

Ian, get down to your local Trading Standards office, surely this is covered in the "sale of goods act" ie it is not fit for purpose, therefore they should replace or give you the money back!
