Pulsar 125cc won't start
« on: September 15, 2008, 07:09:43 PM »
Hi there,

I've got a bit of a problem with my 2002 Kymco Pulsar...it won't start.  The problem started a few weeks ago and I took it into a garage and they (sort of) fixed it, the bike would run but would cut out while riding and come to a halt, after a few minutes it would start and run another mile or so.  Unfortunately as the garage was across town, I had to pay for them to come and pick it up as well as "fix" it...I can't really afford it this time.  They replaced the HT lead and the spark plug.

At the moment, I try and use the starter and also the kick start, the bike turns over but will not fire at all.  The battery looks OK as the lights/indicator/horn work (is this an indication that the bike has sufficient power to start?).  I've replaced the spark plug again to see, the original plug was quite black.  I've freshened the fuel.

Is there anything obvious I could try?

I read another post earlier and will try the basic compression test.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Just to add to this...

I've checked the spark plug by removing the plug and turning the bike over, I get a blue spark. I've also put my finger over the hole and got a good amount of compression/pressure against my finger.
