DOES ANY ONE ELSE FIND THE SEAT HARD ON THE 500
« on: May 07, 2010, 05:18:31 PM »
I just rode 150 miles on my 500 and the seat was as hard as a rock plus it felt like I sliding toward the front of the seat all the time. Do others find the same problem or complaint? Has anyone found a cover or pad to put down on the stock seat. I am thinking about have a new seat made but the $$$ may be to much right now. Any help or ideas would be appreaciated.

Pretty much every 500 rider has had the same comment. The cure is find an auto upholstery shop, and have it re-done to your liking. Use the search feature on the top right to find some of the posts on the seat

Yup.. it seems everyone thinks the seat is hard.

As for sliding forward... put your feet out in front on the running boarda, or up on the running boards. That should help.

Have you tried adjusting the backrest backward?  Might help with the sliding forward.

Once the stock seat gets broken in, and it does take a long time for your butt to break it down, you will stop sliding forward. I found a guy here in San Antonio, Texas who made a custom seat, lower and narrower than stock, with some special foam he uses, and it made a difference.

I hope the link works. If not, let me know

Heard a lot of good things about the air hawk cushion.

If you really want to go all out for comfort try a Russell Day Long seat.

The seat on my last motorcycle had the same problem. I removed the cover to get at the foam and from the underside, I drilled a bunch of holes where my fanny rested, (but just short of going all the way through). You can cut out a piece and replace with softer foam also. The way I did it, it didn't change the seats shape when re-assembled.

I am having the same problem with sliding forward.  I have to stand up and readjust myself about every 20 minutes at stop signs or traffic lights.  At 6' 1", I am beginning to wonder if I am too tall for this bike.  I love the ride, but just cant' seem to get to a comfortable position.  Frustrating!
