tick over problem, please help :(
« on: March 17, 2011, 07:45:22 PM »
i have got the kymco super 8 50cc, and it runs fine, but, when i slow down and stop, it will just slowly die, and turn of (when the choke is of), basically it doesnt idle when stationary. is this a problem with the idle jet, or the cdi unit? if this is the problem, where can i get a new one?
thank you for your help
(btw the choke works fine).

Carburetor adjustment:
warm up
adjust mixture screw to max rpm
adjust idle screw for robust idling

4-stroke:
mixture screw #16154, idle screw (without number) above #16142

If you have the new 2-stroke, it's #20 and #10

Mixture screw about 2-3 revs outside all-in, to the position which results in maximum idle rpm. Just try!

But I forgot:
If the valve clearance was checked long ago, you should do this prior to carb adjustment. With cold engine!

will the choke still work properly when it is started from cold though? (auto-matic choke on this scooter btw). and it doesnt really like and throttle when the choke is on.

You don't touch the choke with valve clearance or carburetor adjustment, it will still work.
The choke is basically a heated bimetal slowly closing an additional jet.
