Givi Box Installed on DT 300i
« on: March 13, 2011, 11:08:38 PM »
Even though too cold out 38 degree's, went out to the garage to install the Box. It will be a good size for carrying etc. Not to mention how good it looks on the Silver Bullet! No problem installing other than had to put glue on one finger to hold a nut's to get into a tight area.

For those that aren't familiar with this Box, a feature I like is the one button depress to release the Box off it's mount to carry with you. If the lid of the Box is locked with the key, so is the Box locked to it's mount. Key unlocked enable's the lower button to be depressed to release the box from it's mount if decided. I have another idea for this box which I will write to Givi about!

Are you planning to add lights to it? I am putting an led kit into mine when it gets here. Have a look at the admore  led v46-t-ts.
DT300i should be here in 4 weeks, not sure on time on the case yet. Ordered case from the states as it is about $100 less than Canada.

That is a good looking box, Syl!  The installation looks REALLY straight forward!
Does it hold the box steady (That metal plate looks VERY sturdy)?

That box should hold PLENTY for you!

Tell you what "Whisper", you know how solid the back plate on the scooter is, the one that one would hold to set it on it's center stand, well. The box mounting'e (2 plates) are as solid as if welded to that section. There are rubber stoppers in places that are close but no affect on it being solid. Truthfully I am impressed as to how solid it is. If you were abel to read the photo's at all, I try to show the long bolt's that replace the two you have to take out of the lift section I described. They are in there very very tightly and I had to keep taping the allen wrench to break them free. There is one solid sort of plastic plate and the other solid steel. The box sitting on this mount is equally very solid...no problem with any concern with this. The lock system is great even though weeks ago I thought there was a problem but that was my own fault of no understanding just how to work it.

Even though a bit cool out!.....went for a ride of course with the Givi Box installed. The Silver scooter, Silver Box, Silver helmet and white and black jacket caught many eye's and many comment's in the park and under a bridge area! I am trading in my Scorpion 1/2 helmet for a Fulmer which should be in in a couple days. The dealer, sales person I know and dealt with would like to have the photo's I posted on this Forum. Glad to help out being I would like to see more of these sold around here. The Box on the back makes a big difference in this unit's appearance. Gonna check out the LED's mentioned.

As shown in some post's, the Givi V46 is a great looking box but when out on the road and park's, so many people want to ask about it. I am happy to explain it to them and show them it's feature's. The quick release and suit case type handle really get's the aww's! I've been able to store my padded jacket and helmet in it for the two ride's I had with it already. I also find people quite interested in the padded jacket and of course the white of it. Liner out and still comfortable on a hot day being it is pourous. Now if I get all the question's resolved about the operation of the DT 300i....well you know!

We'll get you sorted out, Syl.  By the time we're done we'll be able to moonlight as Mech reps for the beastie.  LOL!

BTW - My ebay box came in.  It was 100% crap.  Very dissapointed.  HOWEVER, I scored a deal on a Shad SH33!  The features seem very parallel to the Givi, though your topcase is much more roomier - 46L is enormous!  I have a silver panel on order for it to match the paint.

I cound some red LED strips - 12" each, came 2 in a pack at Western Auto.  It is weatherproof with an adhesive 3M backing.  Instead of prying off the reflectors, I think I may just stick these right on the bottom half under a lip.  I'll post pics of the entire saga.  Should be simple.

What I NEED to find is a plug or quick disconnect set for the case.  Like the Givi, the shad cases can pop off for handcarry.  I'd need a plug so I could disconnect the electrical bits to make this happen.  Any suggestions/help is appreciated.

I also decided that I would not like to pay $90.00 USD for the DT300i-specific adaptor kit.  Especially when that is slightly less than what I paid for the box itself.  So, I'm going to commune with the MIG and drill press to see what I can fabricate.  I have some ideas, and it should result in a clean and stable install.  Actually - That Givi manual that you posted helped a LOT.  I may borrow some of their ideas.

The main bolt's that attach that back rack to the bike are very solid and tight as I mentioned. I had to tap the allen wrench a bit to loosen. The new bolt's that came with the kit are longer. May want to be careful on the depth with new one's. Also that U bracket, was the icing on the cake to grab fast the back end of the mounting plate...very important. Good Luck!

I picked up some longer bolts (and some caps to pretty it up ;D ) last weekend.

here's the plan so far:

1:  Cut spacers from steel tube - To get the bolt heads slightly above the stock rack
2.  bend a 1/2" steel bar to go between the bolts.  It will need to be bent so the bolt heads won't interfere with the platic mounting plate.
3.  Weld some plate steel to the bar to make the plate.  Have to be careful not to warp it.  May weld the spacers on the bar to make it all one piece.
4.  Cut the plate to be even or maybe 1/4 longer than the stock rack.  Grind smooth.
5.  Make 2 'U brackets' like the Givi's, to hold the back down.
6. Drill holes to mount AND to affix some rubber blocks underneath - My tick for keeping it SOLID.
7. Put it together.

That is the plan...  So far.

I found an adapter plug that will allow me to easily disconnect power to the LED brake lights I'll be installing on the topcase when it needs to be removed.  Should be dead simple.

Whisper, I can appreciate what you are doing...that take's some know how so I admire your taking on this project. Listen, is you want me to take mine apart, measure and trace, will be happy to do so. I can do some changes so that it is not duplication and it might fit your idea. I eventually will do some lighting attachment's hopefully. Good Luck with your's. I am very happy with this box.

Actually, the pics and instructions you sent me for the Givi have already helped me sooooo much - You don't even know.

Since this is going to be left to my imagination, no need to disassemble yours - I have new, longer bolts that will work (I'm going to retain the OEM cargo rack), and really the only CRITICAL measurement will be the distance between those 2 bolts.  No problems there.

As quid pro quo, I think the LED brake light setup I'm brewing will be cheap, very clean, and easy.  Hopefully I can lend you a hand when you pull the trigger on that and return the favor!
