Are you dealing with a reclamation hose or a straight, non-foreskinned hose?

I am in California and we ONLY have the second style  of nozzles. They are vapor recovery nozzles designed to reduce the amount of fuel that evaporates during fueling.  For some people they can make great gas geysers with a lot of gas on the ground.

I found I had to hold my gas hose nozzle in the 9-11 o'clock position on my P250 for the shut off to work correctly. I have 2.2 gallon tank and it's right at 2.0 gallons when the gas light comes on.  I slow down the filling process to the slowest I can when I get to 1.7 gallons and let it fill the rest of the tank very slowly. I have had very few geysers since starting this.  I am guessing the bubbly gas is not allowing the fill sensor to work correctly

I REALLY appreciate all the ideas!!!  I think I'm going to use SEVERAL to prevent the gas-splosion form geysering out of my tank.  I think your right - If the pump isn't horizontal, maybe the clicky shut off mechanism gets dodgy.

DO NOT DEPEND ON THE SHUT OFF MECHANISM.  I don't and I don't have the problems you do.  Shut it off yourself.
