Okay, so what's your point?  A lot of scoots from the top tier scooter/motorcycle companies are made in mainland China these days.  Not that I particularly like it, but that's the world we live in now.  I personally own a Like 50 2T and I have been delighted with the quality of it.  I also own a Honda Elite 110 and it's also made in Honda's China plant...nice quality also.  I don't have a problem necessarily with scoots be made in China by companies that have very strict quality controls, like KYMCO and Honda have in place.  The reason they do this is so they can gain more market share by offering their scoots at a more competitive price point, not necessarily lower quality.

great price!  wonder if i would've gone kymco instead of the honda elite 110 with that pricing 4 months ago... love competition.  is that effective immediately?

love the elite though and hope they bring the honda sh300 and kymco people gt300i so i can try both before deciding which will be my next scoot.  kymco usa told me last week the people gt300 will be coming aug 2011 for msrp for $5399.

That they made a whole lot of profit off this bike for a year. That my dealer's going to lose his ass on the one he has on the floor.

Well, for what it is, considering its standard offering, the scoot was originally priced fairly and competitively at an MSRP of $3,399.00.  Not to mention, profit is a relative term, especially depending on what the dealers actually sold the scooter for, mostly in the off-season where substantial incentives can be had.  As far as your dealer going to "lose his ass on the one he has on the floor", I feel certain KYMCO will adjust (lower) his investment into that scooter.  I have a good friend who's a KYMCO dealer, so I'll ask him how KYMCO handles such a situation, even though his dealership hasn't actually had a 200i in-stock since they came out.  I doubt too many dealers have loaded-up on the 200i since it came out and even if they did, I also doubt many have been sold, which is why they have drastically lowered the price.

Oh, I didn't think the original price was out-of-line -- it had a bigger engine than a Buddy International 150, fuel-injection, and still was right about the same MSRP with a top case included!  Sounded like a great deal, actually. But now knowing that these are built on the mainland where labor is much cheaper than in Taiwan, I can easily believe there was some serious profit-taking on this model. The new MSRP reflects a more reasonable profit margin, or maybe a bit less than average for Kymco (as you say, it's entirely possible that they overproduced this model and undersold it to dealers, but they won't lose money on it at that price).

However, my dealer (for whom I work on occasion, and designed & maintain the web site) does not buy scores of Kymcos every year, but rather as many as a dozen or so in a good year, and as few as one or two in a year like 2009-2010. He buys and sells scores of Genuine Buddys, though. And in good years, we can sell an Agility 125 for every couple-or-three of Buddys sold. So he'll have to eat that -- he's already paid to floor it for almost a year now, so even selling it at $3400 OTD, taxes included, he's going to take a loss. And no, I don't think he's going to see any adjustment from KymcoUSA on that.
