Battery tender
« on: August 15, 2012, 07:51:16 PM »
Hello all, I was wondering if it is possible to connect a Deltran Battery Tender to the accessory plug located in the glove box on my 200i lX. Is that plug for power out only or is it a two way connection? I plan on getting a Battery Tender soon and I know that a cigarette lighter type plug is available. Any ideas? ???

That's what I do.  It's easier than accessing the battery and it works just as well.

I thought the accessory port didn't work when the scooter was turned off. Keeping you from draining the batter if you have something plugged in.
So the tender jr. adapter WILL work?

I use the ring wire harness and let the connector hang out the bottom near the kickstand. This allows easy access for connecting up the tender and I don't need to have the glose box remain open.

I really don't know about whether the accessory jack is usable with the key off. What I want to know is can the port be used to sustain the battery during storage by plugging the battery tender into it? If the key is off then the port SHOULD allow power to flow back to the battery via the recharger. Am I wrong? I'm not an electrician! :-\

With the key off, test the outlet.  If it has juice, then you can use the tender with it.  If it has no juice, then it will not work.  An incomplete circuit won't let electricity flow in either direction, period.

Right you are, the socket is NOT energized with the key off. Thanx for the info.

The acc port will work without the key if it was installed by yours truly.  It did not come with my Yager.  The only thing between the battery and the acc is a fuse.

Big Blue: I don't have a Like 200i, I own a GT300i. Anyway...Just attach the pigtail directly to the battery & snake it thru. Took me like 15 minutes to get this done my my GT300i. You could use a little die-electric grease on the ends of the pigtail to prevent corrosion. A tube can be had @ Lowes/Home Depot for like $3.00

If you have a seasonal scooter season like me, just pull you battery out & keep it on a float charge in the Winter months. Trust me....I small $25.00 investment could keep your battery going for years!

Thanx for the reply MassScoot. I plan on getting one before Fall sets in. Weather here in Oregon gets nasty after October but not like east coast. I'm originally from Mass/RI .

Big Blue: You're a New Englander like me? I'm sorry I meant to say a $25.00 investment, not $35.00! I had a buddy of mine that lived in the Eastern part of Oregon & he said it got pretty nasty there in the Winter. I'm glad you'll pick-up a Battery Tender, it's so worth the short coin! Good Luck.
