So I have been lurking and asking questions here and there this year, and I think I have the most experience as a rider on this thing in such a short amount of time.
I bought this on May 1st, 2010 for $5500
I have put over 29000 miles. How you may ask? Well I live in Houston, TX and well houston is pretty large, with a mix of highway miles, city and suburban driving. Also i took weekend trips, maybe 9 this year. I'm a Realtor, so i always hated driving so i decided to ride. Now I ride all day!
I run the 10-15 miles over speed limit here in texas at around 70-75 miles an hour. If you lived here you'd know why.
I averaged 43-48 miles per gallon, until my speedomer went wacky.
Problems within this year:
Accessory outlet doesn;t charge very well
Broke down at 17,000 miles (CVT belt shredded)
Leaking oil on engine, coming from wires on top of engine.
Speedometer went out at around 24,500 miles, however I still used it for 2 months, thus over 29000 miles. I took it in for warranty and asked them to check my belt and they found some rod that goes into the variator to not be good so it was replaced as well as with rollers. Hey 29000 miles on rollers not bad.
Gas can over flow onto plastic when filling up not good. I have to use a dye to keep it semi ok. I think its bondo dye or something.
Redlines at 83 miles per hour indicated but have got it up to 95, but that was way over redline, so don't do that.
Battery for me like today has died. I'm thinking the staor is not working right
Other than that, so far it has proved to be a good commuter, and touring bike.
The good:
I got one more left on my warranty.
I may not put as much miles on my Xciting like i did this year, becuase I got a Yamaha TMAX.
However, the xciting is my tourer and work bike, and the TMAX is my sportbike.
If any of ya;; have questions, just ask.
PS: I'm tha baddest Xciting 500 owner in the world I think. 29000 miles in 10 months?
I just got it back and it runs like a champ
