Barely runs at high RPM
« on: March 31, 2011, 11:56:16 PM »
I bought my wife this 2006 Venox 250 as her first bike. When I bought it, the fuel was so bad it barely ran without the choke full on. I emptied and cleaned the tank with fresh fuel and alcohol and let it dry out. I added fresh fuel, pulled the carbs and cleaned everything, and threw new plugs in it. It idles fine, but bogs out under acceleration, it barely goes 40mph. I am stumped.

Could be a dirty air filter??

It doesn't seem terrible. Against my better judgement, I blew it out carefully with compressed air, but it revs fine in neutral. It seems to be pulling air fine, but seems to be running out of fuel. I'm working on locating the fuel filter. I didn't see one when I pulled the carbs to clean them.  I can't find parts for this thing in Minnesota, so it's a little tricky.

Still no fix. I have removed and cleaned the carbs completely, even flushed the tank. The Venox doesn't have a fuel filter, and the petcock flows fuel. I reset the mixture screws to 2.5 turns out from seated, and it's worse than before. Now it seems to run super rich, when it will start.

I don't know what you mean by serial. The bike is stock, and I just bought it, so I have no idea what's happened to it. I did find that the floats were set too high causing the richness and no start issue. After resetting the floats, it starts and idles like a champ again, it just falls on it's face like before under any throttle past 1/4 or so. Slides looked good and move freely, diaphragms seemed good.

Make sure the tank vents when fuel is being used.....only thing that has not been mentioned yet.

Tank vents. I've checked the vent in the tank and evap hoses. I even rode it with the gas cap off.

New plugs. They don't appear rich or lean. Jets are all stock, as is the bike. Compression is even on all cylinders, and within spec.
