Agility 50 idles, but won't run
« on: May 18, 2011, 10:03:28 PM »
I got a 2006 Agility 50 that had not been run in about two years. It had no key so I had to rig up a jumper to simulate the ignition switch. I first it would crank but not fire up. I then cleaned out the fuel tank, removed and cleaned the carb., replaced the spark plug, changed the oil, and put a good battery in it. Now it fires up and idles just fine. The problem is the as soon as I open the throttle, even when the engine is warm, it dies immediately. The only thing I didn't dismantle and clean on the carb. was the accelerator pump( I forgot to do this and didn't remember until I had it reinstalled). Could this be the source of the problem or is there something else I overlooked?

what you have to know is the three circuits of a carb idle run & accelerate once you know these you can fix any carb, fuel starvation is a common problem with a bike that has set ,check draw jet first then check acc pump.

bthmteck, I cleaned all the jets with cleaner and compressed air, but tomorrow I'll remove the carb to clean the accelerator pump. You refere to a "draw jet". This is a term I'm not familiar with, which jet is this?

just for the heck of it take some 3w40 and spray on the spring that is on the carb next to the throttle.and also maybe the shaft that goes up and down by the accelerator pump. things just might be a little sticky.the out side of the carb works better to if its clean.

draw jet is your main jet, just a little on a small carb can cause problems outer carb linkage could also cause this if acc pump linkage is stuck, also ck for false air ' vac leak' this will also cause lean condition, does bike backfire under acc.also try to run bike on carb cleaner if this works than you have fuel starvation problem.

Ok, so draw jet is the main jet. Thanks. I'll remove carb. and clean jets again, and clean accelerator jump and lube linkage, springs, etc. I can't tell if it backfires as I can't get it above idle or it dies.
