What parts/tools to carry on the road?
« on: June 11, 2011, 03:53:45 PM »
Hey guys-  Sorry for the rookie question here, but there is no search function on this site, so I haven't found an answer to this question that I am sure has been asked before.  What spare parts/tools would you reccommend keeping under the seat on an Xciting 500 for "just in case" situations? Thanks in advance.

Also, has anyone had any luck with strobing brake lights and where did you get them?

Urbestfriend carries the 2nd. Level Triple A Membership that covers
Cycle towing up to 100 miles.  Then I've got a set of fold-up metric allen
wrenches,  the toolkit that came with the bike and Leatherman Tool.
Might use a Screwdriver with 4 interchangeable tips.  Oh... and a
small LED flashlight, small spray bottle of glasses cleaner or alcohol
and a clean cheap wash cloth or two.  I wrecked on uneven pavement
on the highway some time back and used the washcloth over my eye which
required 23 stitches.   On the small extended luggage rack on the back
I mounted a waterproof plastic food container 6" dia. x 10 or 12" Tall
for about $7.50 at Walmart.   I wrapped Reflective tape around it and
it holds my helmet when parked.

I agree on the tools that were advised. I always carry some papertowels, and some "real" rags too. I bought a set of strobe brake lights, but haven't installed them yet. Doesn't look too hard. Purchased them from Motorcycle Superstore website. They are called "electropods".

One thing to add to the above list is a feeler gauge for the points (just in case). I pulled just the one feeler gauge to properly set my People s200's points and put it in the little box with my spare NGK spark plug and put that in my tool bag. One more thing.... don't forget a tire presure gauge and a good pair of sunglasses!!
