Probably a stupid question...
« on: July 15, 2011, 01:09:19 AM »
What is the difference between these two gaskets?

http://www.scootertronics.com/gy6hipeexga.html

Are they for the same use but different style or what?

Please enlighten  ???

The difference is about $6.50  ;D

I know on my a50 the gasket is like the 2nd more expensive one. As long as it seals the joint then it doesnt matter which you use. Doubt I would pay nearly 10 bucks for an exhaust gasket tho, look on ebay, sure you will get the same one there for $3-$4? I got my last gasket there on ebay UK for a couple or quid.

The second gasket would be ok if you are bolting two flat flanges together, but from what I have seen with these scoots is that the exhaust ports have a machined recess to take the other type. This means that you may not get a seal, as the main sealing part of the gasket may be over the recess. I recently put a new exhaust on my falcon (rear 2/3s) and used that type gasket, cost about $8 or $9, 2 1/2".

The gasket I got was the flat kind but it had like a raised thicker bit round the hole so was kinda like a mix of the 2. Seems to seal fine on my a50 anyway. I also used a little exhaust join compound too on the surfaces just to be airtight.
