BS or the real deal?

Came across this on another forum and I'm debating whether to attempt it or not. Seems kinda risky especially with my precious Kymco.

What do you guys think?

That's what I was thinking... risky. I would like to hear somebody first hand with experience in doing that before I tried it out on my scooter.

I also looked at the stock piston from my engine and it didn't show any signs of wear like the ones in the pictures from that link, so I think I'm gonna stick with the ol fashion method of heat cycling it for a while on its stand then takin it easy the first couple hundred miles out.

I heard they do that to the 2 strokes for some reason but I woulden try it with a 4....

That's why I was so surprised by it, it says that the "hard break in" method described in that article is for four stroke engines" even your lawn mowers!" At the top of the article. Seems kind of extreme.

I guess everything you read on the internet isn't true after all... Hahaha

Guess we will see.

I basically hard broke mine in. Been de-restricted and full throttle on streets since day one after I bought it and only difference between mine and his is I didn't change oil in first 20 miles, but by 300km.

And I have been using synthetic for about last 3 or 4 changes and I am at 3800km I change between 750km and 1000km. basically once a month for me around mid month.  No issues thus far. (knock on wood)

as for speed, without any changes other than derestriction, I get to 35mph relatively easily, minus the normal slowness from about 20 to 30mph where it feels like it "shifts" so to say. and average 38 to 41mph on flats.  Again this is without variator or roller changes. just de-restriction from dealer. I don't even know if it has a smooth drive boss.

And when I checked spark plug a few oil changes ago it was a nice tan color. not burnt and not oiled over.
