« on: July 24, 2011, 07:15:07 PM »
Hi guys

My GF bid on this on Ebay is this a good deal?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170669120581&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Is the 2006 model Fuel Injected or just carburetor?

Appreciate some feedback.

YES, it is a good deal.
Don't you trust your GF to know what she is doing?
Did she win the bid?

Nice scooter.  All GV250s are carbed.  They start good and run well.

I would expect to buy a new battery by next spring since that one may be from 2005.
I'd also do an oil change and new brake fluid as well as coolant.  Then you should be good.
Check the tires, they may have started to weather crack since they are also about 2005 vintage.
(The 2006 year models probably started to appear about August of 2005. There should be a manufacturer's date by the VIN).

I hope your GF wears safety gear and has had the MSF safety training for motorcycles or scooters.

Have many fun hours scooting together.

As to engine sound, handling, any physical inspection I should watchout for?

Btw is 2006 GV fuel injected or carb?

All GV250s have 1 carb.

1. Look for body damage in case the scooter has been dropped.
2. Check tires for aging and make sure they are aired properly.  25 psi front  & 28 psi rear.

3. Engine should start easily when cold.  If the carb is dirty, starting may be a problem.  Likewise idle speed.

4.  Change the oil.  Ther is no oil filter so check the oil screen for metal or strange pieces.

5.  Does the scooter ride well and gooes down the road smoothly ?

6.  Use plain water to wash the windshield.  Do not use dishwashing detergent.

Gonna fly to Ohio and checkout this unit. Hope I won't be disappointed. I'm wary that the mileage is only 951 miles since its a 2006 model.

Guys they are charging Doc fee of $250 is it really that high in Ohio? I know its only $99 . Also the title transfer fee is another $15. I still have to ship it to my place for another $150. Is this dealer "Padding" the tax & tags?

With the low miles, I'd worry about gasoline varnish in the fuel system.  So, try to remove any existing gas (as much as is easy to siphon out), then add new gas and SeaFoam
in the correct proportions.

Other than that, I wouldn't worry about the miles,
just a new battery and look closely at the tires to see if they are rotting.

Hi just checkout the used GV this are problems
1. Gas cap wont lock. Seems to be the latch cannot reach the hook
Should I request let a pro do it? Coz when it spill it would create a hazardous condition.
2. The left side fairing overlaps the lower part. Is this easy to fix?

3. The battery is dead so install a brand gel cell
4. Some bolt are missing and the inside battery compartment has some screw missing.

Is it normal when set the side stand the engine would cut?

It starts on the first press. Once it got warm it idles at 2 bar on the Lcd.

It runs good around tge car lot but of course no hi speed test.

Hope this GV would be good.

Yes, lowering the side stand kills the engine.
To start: Raise the side stand & hold the left brake lever.

2 bars are right for the idle speed when engine is warm.
When cold and the choke is on, 3 bars idling.

I think you can download a manual.  Google for Grand Dink 250 manual, which is the original name for the GV250.

Screws missing from the battery cover is standard. Sheet Metal screws are what is needed for the battery cover.

With a manual, you should be able to get the fairing re-aligned and maybe fix the gas cap.  It would not hurt to get an estimate from your local dealer for the gas cap fix.

Our dealer is a nice guy and the shop $/hr are reasonable for a dealership.... cheaper than the Honda and the Yamaha dealers.

Sounds like a good buy.  Perhaps a lowspeed drop screwed up the plastics.

Just got a call from the dealer they're going to ship it out. Shipping cost $400! from OH to PA.

BTW since this GV is from out of state, where do I begin to have it inspected? Can my local mechanic who state inspect my car do the scooter? I live in PA.

I would think that the same inspection stations are used for all PA vehicles.  If not, I bet that the cars inspection people can tell you where to take your scooter.
Or ask where you register the vehicles.

$400 is about average for a shipment.
Check the scooter tires before they unload it.
We got a motorcycle shipped and after the unload and
push into our driveway, we noticed a flat tire.  Even though we are sure that the nail got into the tire before our driveway, We could not prove that the flat occurred as part of the move.

Have a great time with the scooter.
