Hello Kymco friends
« on: October 13, 2011, 08:51:51 AM »
Just thought I would introduce myself. I just recently adopted a 2007 Kymco 500 from my elderly neighbor. I dont really know much about the scooter world. I have only ever owned motorcycles. The size of this thing really took me by surprise. I am still waiting to swap the title over and get it all street legal but having fun looking it over and sizing it up until then.

Even though it is a 2007, the thing looks brand new. My elderly neighbor only put 78 miles on it before I got it so I am thrilled that I will be the one to break it in!

I do have a few questions though:

1. Whats the deal with the 330lb capacity? I am 260. With those specs I cant even put my 80lb son on the back. Is this right? I noticed all of them have this capacity no matter the size. This thing looks plenty big enough to carry more. This is a huge concern for me. Thoughts?

2. I see that it requires premium 91+ fuel. Anyone tried the regular 87, or is this just one of those "must use the best" kind of deals? Anyone notice a difference?

3. There is a light that keeps coming on on dash. The book says it is saying that the seat isnt fully locked even though it is. Is there a way to adjust the sensor? It goes off when i sit on it but comes on when I get off.

4. There is a light under the seat but it isnt working. I dont know how to get to it. Is there an easy way I dont know about?

I am sure I will have more questions when I start crawling more through this thing but I am glad to be here and glad I found this place.

Welcome!

1. 330lbs is for safety reasons. The Xciting is a very solid scooter and can carry more - on your own risk.
2. Imho your regular 87 is equivalent to the European "normal" with 91 ROZ. No problem with 91 ROZ.
4. Remove the underseat compartment. You'll see the bulb and its wiring. But a shining bulb will drain your battery if 3. isn't resolved.

Welcome to the forum.  You'll like the X500 it is a great scooter.  ts1 is correct. Someone may have disconnected the bulb due to problem #3. Make sure you fix 3 before you work on 4.  As far as the weight, I am 220 and my wife is 165 and we can ride two up with ease.  The weight limit is a legal thing.  Adjust the rear spring pre-load to your desired ride for the weight.  I have run 87 in mine for 10K miles with no apparent problems.  Enjoy  :)

Well spent the weekend with this thing on the highway and I must say, I was impressed. I didnt think I would be able to keep up with highway trafic but looks like I was wrong.
