Are you guys super strict about adjusting the valves every 4000 km? I've been extending this interval a bit...:-\

Checked the valves on my S8 at 4000km.  They where all within spec.  I'll probably do it every 4000km until the warrantee expires then I'll extend it especially if the clearances don't change much.  If you're valve clearances change every 4000kn, then that's a good interval, if not then extend it.

It seems on the face of it that using synthetic motor oil would increase the interval, since synthetic reduces friction,  and therefore wear.

Except the valves don' get adjusted for wear.  You still get the same back an forth motions and vibrations acting on the valves and their adjusters when you use synthetic oil - so I wouldn't use that as a reason to stretch it out.
