Belt's
« on: November 23, 2011, 03:31:06 PM »
Anyone know the part # for a Gates belt for the X500? And where to get one, cost & so on? And does it have ribbs on both sides (top & bottom that is) same as the stock one. This $200.00 per belt is killing me. Recommend anyother belt? It does not have to be Gates, as long as it last around 10-15'000 miles or so. I think I will have to change to the Melossi or Pollini variator as the stock Kymco is absolute junk. :'(

Gates # PL 30071.   Beware, though, some here have said it's no good.  I accidently abused mine I think and it split.  Due possibly to running with the shim washer out of the variator.  Thank god I caught it before it broke completly.  Do a search for Gates in the Xciting 500 section and/or how to section with our search feature here and you'll see some more bad references to Gates and other cheaper belts.  I don't think I'd use one again.  Yeah, I know what you mean about the price of the OEM belts!  At least I haven't broken one of those yet.

They don't have the cogs on the outer surface and I seem to remember someone here posting that the dimentions weren't quite exactly the same as OEM.

I found it by using a search feature off of the Gates website and also found local dealers that way.  Called a couple of those dealers before finding one willing to order it for me.  Cost was around $30.

Thanks. I guess I will go with a kevlar Malossi. I have seen them on sale for as low as $135.00 or so. The first time I changed my belt it was to a malossi & it broke at 1500 miles, but this was not do to the belt as the bushing/sleeve in the variator froze up inside of the pulley half. If I can come up with the $ I guess I will have to go the Malossi route for both belt & variator. The Kymco stock system seems to be good for only about 17'000-24,000 mile's or so before it self distruck's. Sad, other wise the X500 is a true work horse. I have had no other problems at all & I am near 30,000 miles. :'(
