Puig Smoked Windshield
« on: August 25, 2011, 10:20:57 PM »
Windshield Puig Kymco Downtown 125/200/300 i 10-11 ligh - I have seen these for sale on ebay wondered if anyone has purchased one. They are a sportier looking shield a lot lower than standard and am concerned that it will direct a lot of buffeting onto face and chest. Would appreciate any comments

Lower shields usually buffet LESS then the big ones.

If you're lucky, you'll end up with pure air on your helmet which is a lot more
comfortable then buffeting behind a (poorly designed) big windscreen.

Try riding your DT without a windscreen for a few miles and you'll see what
I mean. More pressure from the wind but a lot less noise (with a good helmet)
and head shake.

I was NOT happy with the stock windscreen for my 5'11" (180cm) height, it
was actually one of the worst stock screens I encountered on a scooter.

I'd probably get a smaller one AND a HUGE one for winter.

Yes that was my thinking having a small screen for summer and the stock for winter. Thanks for your suggestions and your thoughts on the screen. Think I will log on ebay and order one.

Fitted the new windshield a lot smaller than anticipated but gives the scoot a sportier look. The wind hits you on the chest now not around your head. It is definitely a summer shield and I will be re-fitting the standard one for winter. I will post a pic as soon as I can.

I'm looking for more protection. The GIVI windshield is too large at over 6" above the stock height. The option may be to get one though and cut it down.................

Would love to see a photo. I hate the standard screen as I am 6'1" but think the Givi one looks massive.

I keep meaning to try taking the standard screen off and seeing how that looks and feels but haven't tackled that yet. Not sure it would look good!

Agreed that the GIVI shield is huge. I would be fine with the stock width of the our screen if it were 3-4" taller to bring the air flow to the top of the helmet. Airflow off the hands and shoulders etc to me is fine. I haven't tried it in a real cold day yet though.

I do want the shield below eye level as I do prefer looking slightly over the wind screen. As it is sitting full upright the top of the shield is about chin level. 4" would put it about at the tip of the nose, at 3" the upper lip to lower bridge of the nose. I should note I am 5' 11" with a 30" inseam so for others I am sure this varies.

I should also state if I use the upper foot rests the seating sits me leaning back a bit and makes the stock sheild height a better fit. This however seems to also increase drag as at speed I can see I need more RPM to maintain speed. Also because it is cramped to use that position it becomes uncomfortable quickly.

Try running below freezing with the stock windscreen and you will freeze your fingers very fast. The givi covers your hands very well. I am planning a long trip next year with mine. I am going to add a Air Hawk 2  air cushion to the seat which will give me just over an inch additional hight. I can see over the windscreen now but just.
