500Ri - easy seat back mod to get 3/4 inch more legroom
« on: September 08, 2011, 05:46:43 AM »
I did this same mod to my Burgman's years ago, so it was a no brainer to do it to my XCiting.  It's quick and easy if you have a dremel.

1)  Mark the seat with painters tape or something similar to show where the seat will go in the forward most and rearward most positions.

2)  Open the sear and remove the hex lock screw from the slider bar under the seat.  Then pull the seatback all the way out.

3)  If you want to keep the lock screw then cut off the bar right behind it and you'll get about 3/8 of an inch more room - otherwise cut in front of it to take off a bit more than 3/4 inch.  Cut off the same amount from the other bar and slightly bevel the edges.  I left the mount for the lock screw and then decided I there was more room to be had so I cut it off.

4)  Remount the seat back and see how far in you can push it.  It came out to be exactly the width of my painters tape (3/4").  So I pulled the pad back out, put some tape next to the last adjustment notches - and cut my new ones.  Make sure to get straight cuts and make them wide enough that the latches can catch them.  Put it back in, adjust it to your new stop, and enjoy the added legroom...
