My agility 50 wont turn off!
« on: November 29, 2011, 05:27:25 PM »
hi im vicky and im new to this forum. i was wondering if anyone can help!
i have an agility 50, just over a year old, which i use for work. today i was using it fine, and the battery seemed to have died, and it wouldnt start, so i purchased a new battery, and was connecting it up, when i attached the wires to the terminals it started attempting to fire up on its own, even tho the ignition was set to "off". even when i inserted the key and turned it to "on" then attached the terminals again, it continued to try and start itself up (it actually did start itself, but i could feel the starter still going as if it was trying to start) the only way i could stop it was to disconnect the terminals! can anyone please help as i have to be at work again tonight and as i look after elderly people i cant afford to not be there! any help will be much appreciated!
thanks
vicky

Sounds like a starter relay went bad and is staying open and constantly sending power to the starter.  Only thing I can think of right off hand is disconnect the electric starter for now and just use the kick start until you can get it fixed.

The best way to do that would be to unplug the relay?
ZX50, 47mm cyl. kit, TZR50 CDI. Michelin Pilot Sport tyres,
Next performance mod; pumping the tyres up.

If the scoot is new the warenty well cover it. But when it comes down to the kymco warenty you need to stand strong and make sure its all covered with no charge. Been there done that.

thanks to everyone that replied, i have managed to get it working again, i turned the key to "on" held the brake in, and connected the battery and it imediately tried firing up on its own, and it started up, but made the noise as if the starter was stuck on.i reved it a little, it coughed and spluttered for about 10 seconds, then sounded as it should do, so i turned the key to "off" and success! it turned off with the battery connected! do you think the starter relay became stuck on when the old battery knackered up? i have been told the kymco batterys are not supposed to be very good and can cause a lot of problems, as well as not lasting very long. i have installed a new bosh battery and can notice a difference straight away , it starts better, its not sluggish like it has been either. so im glad its working again but is it worth changing the starter relay aswell?
thanks again
vicky

I always say if it ain't broke don't fix it , but I wouldn't let that stop me from locating and pricing parts just in case . Good luck .

It shouldn't be too expensive, so it could be handy to have one on hand to change if it happens again. Then you can confirm whether or not that was the problem.
