second oil change
« on: January 10, 2012, 07:54:47 PM »
i am looking at the maintenance schedule....for oil change on my dt 300i.....the first one was done at 1000km.....it looks as though the next one is not due until 5000 km(or roughly 3,106 miles).....is there anything wrong with doing sooner/more frequently.....and what is the general consensus?...follow the maintenance schedule as if it were the holy grail.....or the more frequent...the better?

You probably won't benefit from changing the oil too often, there's even been some articles explaining why it's NOT good
to do it too often (didn't pay much attention to explanation). Just stick with the recommended oil
(usually 5W50 for the G5 300cc engine) and you'll be good with the recommented 5kkm intervals.. but it's probably better
to change it 1000km before then 1000km too late.

Then again, I've seen an Agility 50cc that blew up at 28.000km because it ran out of oil, the owner NEVER changed or
checked it, it would probably be still running if he at least topped it off. Not that I'd recommend doing that.

Thats a good story about the Agility 50cc. That's kind of how most people treat there lawn mowers. Yes, stay with the maintenance schedule. Or, do what I do, I change my 09 people s200's oil every time the "service" light starts to flash. With the miledge I log on, that's about every 3 month. Good luck and have fun!
