Battery Suggestion
« on: January 01, 2012, 01:03:31 AM »
I just purchased my first scooter today, the Kymco People 50. It's a 2008 with 1800km on it.
I'm pretty excited.

The main issue though is the seller didn't have a good battery for it, so I need to buy one.
Any suggestions on a good reasonable priced battery?

IS it worth it to go with Lithium? Or is Lead Acid the way to go? or are there other options?

Thanks for your help!

You can buy a agm battery at walmart for under $40.00 with an exchange , they also sell battery maintainer chargers . Enjoy your p50 , I love mine . Good luck .

Try buying gel battery and not lead-acid one, if possible.
Gel battery might outlast your scoot, lead-acid usually diesduring the 3rd winter, and that if you check electrolyte level regularly.
I became an avid fan of gel batteries recently.

I went with a Gel battery off Amazon for around $27 shipped.
I ALMOST pulled the trigger on a Lithium battery. The equivalent one was about $50, and a beefier one was about $90.

I hope I made the right choice.

I could not find a gel battery to fit a p50 for $27.00 on amazon . There were a couple of AGM (absorbed glass mat) for around that price . More information please , thank you .

Ok, this is what I ordered: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006LO83GM/

It says Gel in the title, but maybe I'm mistaken.
Then again, I'm a bit confused by the whole battery thing.

Gel and AGM are not the same.  Gel is older design and AGM is better.

I topped it off on the charger last night, and installed it.

It works great, but my starter isn't working.

I think the guy who sold me this scooter pulled one over on me.... Anyone know anything about replacing starters?
