Will I notice a difference from LC to AC?
« on: March 03, 2012, 04:06:33 AM »
Hi all!  New to the forums.  I used to own a 03 Super 9 LC and have regretted selling ever since I did a few years ago.  So in search for a replacement I'm looking at a 08 Super 9 AC.  I'm wondering if you guys think I'll notice a difference going from the LC to an AC machine?  I live in Wisconsin so it doesn't exactly get sweltering here, but I'd rather hold out for what I want then compromise if there's a significant difference.   It's cold and we just got 6" of snow, so not sure how much extensive test driving I'll be able to do for a few days.

Yeah, you'll notice a difference.  The new Kymcos are not much like the old ones.  Don't get me wrong, they can be tuned and all, but the LC bike in my opinion is/was much better.  The LC bike had a better ignition system, liquid cooling, front and rear disc brakes and better color themes.  The AC bikes have an alternating current based igntion system that is rotten, air cooled (which really isn't so bad, but LC is better!), drum brakes in the rear and ugly colors (in my opinion).

Now, that said, they're still good bikes, they're just not what they used to be. :)  I have the air-cooled engine in my People 50 and I drive it all over the place.  It's good stuff.

Thanks.  Yeah, I just got done perusing the forum and kinda got that from my reading too, making me even more depressed I sold my 03 :(  I may go check it out anyway but have this feeling I will be somewhat disappointed.  He's asking $1000 for an 08 with 1200mi (or KM, not sure) which doesn't seem too bad...

AC vs. LC is not a matter of overheating, because both systems will sufficiently cool down the engine. This is prevalent worry of many perspective owners.

However, AC scooters have lower engine output, and considering that on 50 cc 1-1.5 hp is a BIG difference, I would not buy AC one. Deviation from this rule would be OK if I had weight of 100 lbs, or if I drove scoot on short distances in completely flat areas. Considering that I am 240+ and just to reach center of the town 10 kms away I change 400 m of altitude... you get the picture.

I had two 50 cc AC scooters in the past and they were SLOW. Peugeot Zenith and Kymco Cobra cross.

Things change with higher displacement, so I had for example 125 cc air cooled Yamaha/11 hp which was nice, and 750 cc air/oil cooled Kawasaki that was even nicer. But this is a whole different story.

+1..I can totally agree. You will notice a difference. NO Doubt, L.C is the way if possible. ;)  :D
The L.C S9 even has different gears VS a slower A.C model....
I haven't actuall looked at any numbers but To ME, the A.C. even "feels smaller".

..i sold my bud the ppl that tried to kill me..we've been tuning on it some..malossi filter, technigas next pipe, up to a 97 main jet and are now looking into modding the needle clip to raise the needle..

..that lil engine will rock...i did replace the cylinder and piston with OEM new when i had it...
..every mod (action) necessitates a (reaction) mod..
