Power to Handguards
« on: March 10, 2012, 12:35:24 AM »
I have The Acerbis Flash Hand Guards.  They really look neat on the scoot and are hi-vis for night or day riding.  They are internal battery powered.  I want to wire them so that they are powered on with the ignition.  I don't know if it is possible to run those little lights off of the scoot power.  If anybody can come up with a way to do it, I'd like to give it a try, but I have no idea how to change the 12V to the lesser power.

Thanks,
Richard L.

You'll need to add some resistors inline to bring the 12v closer to the 3v those LED's are designed for.   Otherwise the LED's will get too hot and either dim or burn out.

If you aren't used to that kind of wiring - then get a couple of 12v led strips from AutoZone.  They'll come with the right resistors, wiring, and usually a switch for about $24.
