My Kymco people 50 is terrible when it's cold
« on: March 14, 2012, 09:11:20 AM »
Hi Guys
Just bought a second hand Kymco People 50 (6500 Km). Lovely little thing...but on the cold mornings the motor has no strength until it warms up. It hardly gets along the flat, let alone up a hill. After 10 mins run in, its fine, and during the day its fine too. Any suggestions as to what may be happening? I guess it must be something to do with the choke, or the carburetor. But I'm no expert.
Thanks for your time reading

How cold is cold? I'd start with giving her a basic tune up, new plug, set the valves etc.

You can test the auto choke

"You can pull out the choke cold, and mark the needle. Plug it straight to the battery and note the change. It should move approx 5mm. It takes a few minutes to test it."

Compliments of zombie. Thank him ;)

BTW the auto choke is attached to the top of the carb and will be the only thing with wires going to it
