No spark
« on: April 21, 2012, 06:51:58 PM »
Hello ppl's! been awhile since i had to hit up the board because my Kymco scoot is so dependable!

I've had the normal CDI issues then and again & was VERY grateful to the board on letting me in on the $10 Honda CDI instead of the $60-$70 Kymco one.

Now my problem is NO SPARK. I consider myself a pretty good mechanic, not so good with electrical though.

SOOOOOO.... here's the back story....

I was driving along and it just died on me. No intermittent run no run like a faulty CDI it just crapped out.

So i did the usual thing like changed the CDI 1st off (carry a spare). 2nd i tried a new plug (with & w/o the new CDI). still nothing.

Haven't taken it apart yet, but about ready to do so.

So if anyone can point me in a starting direction (as in easy way to test coil, stator, ECT,ECT) it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Other than that hoping for a loose wire!

Probably the ignition coil.  It's easy to test.  The specs are in the manual...can't remember exactly off hand.  Something like less than 13K ohm through one of the spades and where the plug connects.  Between the two spades should be somewhere around 130 ohms.

SOLVED! After getting ready for major work and pulling of my seat, I noticed that a coil wire was off. After putting it back on, my dependable scoot is now AGAIN dependable!

Awesome...it's always nice when it's something simple!
